StyleSeat is one of the leading on demand booking platforms for beauty professionals. As the lead product designer for the Supply side of StyleSeat's marketplace, I have been responsible for designing of the mobile app's core experience UX improvements and new features. Working directly with the head of design and a great team of engineers and a product manager, we use data analysis and several rounds of user testing to ship fast and efficiently.
We took the existing sign up forms and redesigned the experience from the ground up taking user input to create a more educated onboarding experience that drives messaging, feels more unified, simplifies the tasks on each screen, and smoothens the transition of signup to profile/activation. The user feels guided through the entire process rather than just submitting information about themselves.
Modularity of the signup - we were able to easily modify the flow to make room for a credit card capture screen when we switched over to run subscriptions testing.
Previously users were tasked with filling very detailed information forms about their business without education of the product. We found that many users were not ready for that level of engagement and were filling forms withdefault or dummy data just to get into the product.
Upon finishing signup, thet were dropped into a completely different experience to build their profile without any value proposition or further product education.
The process involved doing competitive analysis with competing apps and signup flows that we liked. We then developed a task flow diagram in order to understand what the most essential information to capture at signup was. We broke appart the onboarding process into steps- 1. Signup (data capture) 2. Profile building (Building your online presence on StyleSeat) 3. Activation of profile (Activate and get listed on StyleSeat) 4. Post activation tasks (promote, build your client base, and begin booking)
This project was given two weeks to start and get shipped to make a quarter release and give pros a complete photo management tool they have been asking for. I had to work visual desgin into existing function within a wireframe to make hand-off easy. Unforntunately we were only able to release a small portion due to time constraints.
After much client research we discovered that our existing dashboard lacked a quantitative method of seeing business growth. We designed a more fleshed out and informative data tool for them to get a better understanding of growth with more detail. They could not only learn about their business but now see which areas could use improvement or how to benefit from changing business hours or work on their services list.
We iterated quickly directed by user research and testing with out top tier pros. We focused on designing mobile first with a series of cards, each detailing metrics pros were most interested in learning about. We did a quick design and put it in front of them with InvisionApp. They would give us feedback and we continued to iterate based on that. Mostly what you see here is the start with some fleshed out color system to help with understanding the data.
Styleseat recently moved to a subscriptions based SASS product. We needed to map and design within three weeks to get subscriptions out for regional testing. We quickly built wireframes using our pattern library which helped speed up the visual UI process so we could get it out ahead of time to begin early testing.
